Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, unique in Mexico, this dual destination offers the traveler the combination of the modernity and comfort of a contemporary resort as well as the charm of a traditional small Mexican town by the seashore.
There are a few small boutique, luxury hotels in Zihuatanejo overlooking the bay that MBH represents.
Ixtapa
Ixtapa was developed by the Mexican government in 1968 on a two-mile stretch of beach with golden sands. Here you will find the splendid buildings of some of the most prestigious hotel chains in the world. But Ixtapa was also planned as an ecological development and half of its territory has been preserved as a natural conservation area.
Marina Ixtapa, with slips for 622 boats, is one of the best in the country. The golf course designed by Robert Von Hagge is situated at this lovely marina.
Zihuatanejo
Five miles south of Ixtapa, on a bay with peaceful waters, is the tropical setting of the small town whose name is associated with an uncomplicated way of life. Here there are no high-rise hotels. Rather, the lodging options range from simple family-run accommodations to luxurious but discrete establishments.
Along the cobblestone streets of town, tropical- style constructions shelter the handicraft market, boutiques and jewelry shops; while all along its palm lined beaches, small restaurants with palm-thatched roofs serve fresh seafood.
