Hacienda Xcanatún - Merida
Luxurious - Detailed - Gourmet Cuisine

The magnificent Hacienda Xcanatún-Casa de Piedra (meaning "tall stone house" in Mayan) was originally constructed in the mid 18th century as a classic hacienda dedicated to agriculture and livestock. Its colorful history included being owned by a notable local family before becoming one of the most important sisal-(“green gold”) producing haciendas in the region.

Located minutes from the center of Mérida, Xcanatún had fallen into ruins, but after five years of restoration by the Ruz family this incomparable hacienda lives again. In this historic location guests can enjoy the comfort, quality and passion for detail that distinguish the best hotels of the world.

Today, Hacienda Xcanatún exceeds its original beauty thanks to the talent of master craftsmen and preserves part of Yucatán´s cultural heritage while providing guests with the comforts and indulgences of the modern age.

Suites are distributed over three buildings, finished with impressive millwork and elegant furnishings — perhaps even a divan to lounge on. Premium linens of hand-loomed Yucatan cotton decorate sumptuous beds. Stunning bathrooms are lined with local marble and ticúl stone, some with either a hydrotherapy tub or a room-for-two carved stone tub with its own waterfall. Porches and terraces flank each room — a welcome spot for morning coffee or pre-dinner cocktails.

Nine acres of tropical gardens and manicured lawns showcase the local flora and surround two swimming pools.

In Casa de Piedra´s gourmet restaurant, the chef fuses European techniques with Caribbean and Yucatecan ingredients, resulting in an irresistible menu. Private dining and events are exquisitely staged in the Arcangel annex to the restaurant, which has hosted President Vicente Fox, and the former chapel, now a lofty entertainment and multipurpose room.

Underscored by the fact this land was once part of what is today the preserved Dzibilchaltun ruins, Hacienda Xcanatún is a wonderful starting point for discovering the Yucatán´s archaeology, colonial towns and nearby beaches.

Consider This ...
The cities of Merida and Campeche are ideal destinations for those interested in Mayan culture. For a strong contrast, consider visiting Isla Holbox during the same trip. This way, you experience the best of both worlds: a primitive place of natural beauty and an exciting city full of treasures to be discovered.

"Privacy is the rule at Xcanatún. Surrounded by lush gardens and expansive grounds, it is likely that the only time you will see other guests is during those times you sneak away from your breathtaking suite to spoil yourself with a meal at Casa de Piedra, the hotel´s gourmet restaurant...Quality and attention to detail are the marks of Mexico Boutique Hotels, and member Hacienda Xcanatún lacks for nothing..." – About.com - August, 2008.
